our Philosophy

How we Began

Poppy and Thistle came about when a friend of mine was planning her wedding. I have always loved to draw and be creative. Whilst searching through many different wedding invitations, I thought about two things. The first being; I’d love to design and create unique wedding invites for people. The second of my thoughts was how wasteful wedding invitations are - so much paper is used for wedding invitations and then thrown away.

Wild flower seed paper

This is where inspiration came from, to create eco-friendly wedding invitations from recycled wildflower seed paper; a sustainable biodegradable paper with wildflower seeds embedded within it. The paper not only has a beautiful texture and finish, but it can also be planted to then grow in to wild flowers - what a wonderful memento for wedding guests to remember your big day by!

Not only are the wedding invites made from biodegradable wildflower seed paper, but all other paper we use is recycled and recyclable, including the envelopes and packaging. We have a zero plastic policy!

We all know how important our planet is and that we need to do our bit to look after it. By using recycled seed paper, we discourage the creation of new paper and deforestation which damages our environment. The wildflowers grown from your wedding invitations also encourage environments for bees and other wildlife to live in, benefitting our ecosystem even further.

Designs

I love to design! Initially I designed a few invitation suites as a set of ready to print designs. These can all have alterations made to them on your request, such as; change of font, colour scheme, and paper. I continue to create new designs, some simple text designs, some floral. I try to create a mix of designs so that there is one to suite everyone.

I also offer a bespoke design service where we can work together to create exactly what you want, if you can’t find it amongst our pre-existing designs. Whether this is a floral watercolour design with your favourite flowers in, or a pencil drawing of your venue, I will endeavour to create a design that matches your vision.
